Solving a Delivery Crisis
Module 3 · Problems and Solutions
Read the case study
When a regional delivery company began receiving complaints about late shipments, its management team initially blamed traffic. However, an internal review revealed that the real problem was a lack of coordination between the warehouse and customer service departments. Orders were sometimes marked as ready before they had actually been packed. Rather than hiring more drivers immediately, the company introduced a shared tracking system and required both departments to confirm each order’s status. Employees were also encouraged to report recurring problems without fear of being blamed. Within two months, the number of late deliveries fell significantly. Nevertheless, managers discovered that the new system required additional training. The company therefore scheduled short workshops and created a simple guide for new employees. The experience demonstrated that identifying the underlying cause of a problem is often more effective than reacting to its most visible symptoms.
